INTRODUCTION

“Warp Drive” delves into the aesthetic concept of “interstitiality” shared by both space and time. By merging technologies such as autostereoscopic 3D, spatial computing, and the Internet of Things, this work develops a system that channels new visual forces through media extension and computational design. It invites viewers on a multi-sensory journey, immersing them in a transformative experience of cosmic transference across time and space. The work strives to dissolve the boundaries between technology and art, igniting deep reflection and offering an innovative, immersive encounter for its audience.

From December 20 to 21, 2023, the "2023 New Media Future Vision" Technology and Art Exhibition and Technology-Art Education Forum, organized by Sichuan Academy of Fine Arts, was successfully held at the Times Art Museum in Chongqing.

Invited by the organizers, a team of faculty and students from the School of Innovation & Design at the China Academy of Art, led by the Media & Interaction Institute, proudly presented their work “Warp Drive” at the exhibition.

EXHIBITION PICTURE

“Warp Drive” utilizes a three-sided projection screen combined with augmented reality (AR) technology. When participants move closer to the screen, data starts to appear on the display.

As they reach out with their hands, the data coalesces into AR particles, which gather in the palm. This interaction bridges the digital and physical realms, providing an immersive and transformative experience.
